Maíz

Seattle, WA Visited January 19, 2026
Favorite: Horchata Latte

Right next to the oldest Starbucks in Seattle, there’s a Mexican spot called Maíz that somehow had no line when I stopped by. Meanwhile, the Starbucks line was wrapped down the block. It was honestly surprising, especially after trying it.

Maíz focuses on antojitos mexicanos, with a menu that includes sopes, tamales, chilaquiles, and handmade tortillas. I didn’t order any food this time, but everything looked good and felt like the kind of place you come back to when you want something quick but still well made.

I went in just for a drink and ordered the horchata latte, and it was an easy 10/10. It wasn’t overly sweet and had a nice balance, making it a great option if you want something different from a regular coffee drink. I’d choose this over waiting in the Starbucks line any day.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, offered samples, and were happy to answer questions about the menu. Ordering was easy, and they accept both card and cash, which is always convenient.

Personal Takeaway

Even though I only tried the latte, Maíz made a great first impression. I’d definitely go back to try their food next time, especially since it feels like one of those spots that’s flying under the radar.
